use of the democratic process

…or not. One line that’s been going around regarding this marriage vote is that minority rights should not be put to a majority vote. It’s true–that almost never works. It’s also true that the UUA of which my congregation is a member, “covenants to affirm and promote…use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large”. So I ask this: are there times when the democratic process and consensus are the wrong options, and if so, how do we figure that out, who decides, and what process is the right one?

Just asking.
